Guess the karat gold? Great art-deco ring!

Was at a pawn earlier and saw this ring sitting in the sterling tray marked sterling/onyx. Upon looking at the ring I noticed immediately a yellow hue under the white metal, the ring wasn't marked but I could tell it's gold of some sort. Paid $20 and took it to my antique jeweler and she said it most definitely is gold. Real onyx and a nice transitional cut diamond. The ring has an awesome art deco design. So now I am going to take it to someone I know who has an electronic tester to tell for sure. I have seen this rings like this made in 10k, 14k, and even 18k. So what do you guys think it is? Also, does 1920s sound about right?

I'm gonna guess 18k. That's a pretty nice ring. And a home run for $20! I guess hitting that pawn shop will be a weekly basis? I have a good one here but I only stop in every 3 weeks or so. Don't want him to catch on I'm making $$ off him. Turn over is not like the thrift stores. Nice find

Given the onyx and size of the diamond, I'm guessing rhodium over 10K. Nice piece for $20

Who would wear this ring? Lol I would.... I have always had a fascination with the 1920s style and I love that period. Watches and jewelry not clothing. I think it will be 14k. I wouldn't be surprised if it's 10k but I would be surprised and excited for 18k! The metal itself is very soft and the band of the ring is somewhat bent in an odd way and I can't imagine 10k would bend like it is... this will be interesting! Me and my jeweler were both pleasantly surprised that the onyx stone is in such great condition after so many years, not one chip, especially since the onyx is set in unique way where it overhangs somewhat out of the sides of the setting.

I was able to get almost $400 for this onyx ring with a pink diamond.
The diamond was even slightly chipped. I believe the carat was 10k.
I probably coulda gotten more, was just ready to let it go.

I think its 10K. I believe these are called mourning rings. I found a 10K one with a diamond last year. It wasn't that old thought...maybe 1950's. Mourning jewelry seems to carry a premium for some reason.

Well anyone who said 14k or above was right. I had this tested twice with electric machines and without a doubt it's AT LEAST 14k. However, it goes higher than that almost to 18k but not quite. Not sure what the white metal was, didn't catch that. Spectacular ring!

I had it tested again because I was curious turns out Beachkid was right... It is definitely 18k plated with Palladium, very nice!

I've never heard of palladium plating over gold. It's alloyed with gold to create white gold. Rhodium is usually what is used to plate gold with.

Well, that's what it came up as... There was 4% Palladium in the ring so I assumed it was what it was plated with. But it might just be an alloy instead?

Beautiful ring with a pink diamond too and I don't care if it was chipped or not!!! I collect and sell Art Deco, Art Noveau and Victorian jewelry. All command a premium price with the Art Deco being the highest which of course has to be my favorite too.
