After you have it cleaned to your satisfaction and if you want to do the wax boil.
Make sure it is well dried.
The trapped liquid will boil and expand and could split the grips and cylinder.
After cleaning I've soaked the items in alcohol (not the drinking type).
It absorbs water and evaporates quickly and helps with the drying.
Leave it in a warm dry place for a few days and then do the wax boil.
You could probably put it in a bag of rice to soak up the moisture like they do with phones that get wet?

I think if you tried to take it apart it would fall to pieces. Looks cool as is. I preserve some of my old iron finds with boiled linseed oil, but there's guys here got better methods I'm sure. Nice find.Hey everyone, havent updated for a while. View attachment 1371538
It was in the ground for a while could it be an early colt like 1909 or so? Its been in the vinegar for some time, ive been cleaning and letting it soak. Any recommendations as too the next step i think its pretty much clean. Whats left is just base metal. Should i try to take it apart? Man i wish this thing was complete. Can i restore this any further?
