GW Timex Chrono

My local Goodwill gets these NOS mostly Timex and Casino watches in from time to time. Sometimes they have boxes and papers. This one was on its own without a box, but looks to have never been used? For less than 10 bucks I thought it was a cool looking watch for that price. It is running also. Another thing I saw in a window at a small charity thrift store, but did not buy was this stainless steel flatware set by Rogers. It had a $100. tag on it and recalling zombieraccoon's post makes me wonder if I should buy it to sell? It looks like it was maybe never used? Probably was a wedding gift the newlyweds didn't feel they had to ever pull out of the box. It appeared to be complete with all the paperwork with it.

Nice looking watch, that is definitely an area i need to research more. I see a lot of watches daily, generally only buy them if they are gold because I dont know enough about what to look for. I know I have passed up some very valuable watches because of that. Passed one up a ways back for $100. It looked like a very nice watch, but it was stainless and I assumed (wrongly) it couldnt be worth too much more than that. I knew I was wrong when I set it down, and someone leapt in, snatched it up, threw $100 on the table and practically floated away. I looked it up when I got home. It was a Breitling and sold for about $1800 on Ebay. Wont ever forget that name brand now.

As far as the flatware, Rogers is pretty low on the value list. Most of the higher dollar flatware is contemporary pieces ca 1980-present There are a few exceptions, but these generally have very unusual patterns, or are extremely heavy.

Don't have my addresses here with me but there are two companies out there that'll buy separate silver & flat ware to sell as replacements. If you buy incomplete sets from GW you might get more than scrap from these guys.

I thought so. Even though it's a cheap Timex, they did make it look rather cool with that avionics instrument look. Better NOS examples on eBay go for about 60 bucks. Without the box I could maybe get $40. out of it. ??

Lack of knowledge. With watches that's me also. Probably because of all the watches I've ever bought or sold none are worth more than $50. I passed on something this past weekend I should have bought or at least asked a price on. It was a moving sale at a 1.6 million dollar house on the intracoastal. Like a dummy I thought about it after the fact. It was a Timex and I don't even know what model but it looked like a gold Rolex from a few feet away. So maybe a Submariner. The kicker is, it was sitting in a watch winder display box that had 8 winders and 10 storage slots that had $25 on it. I looked at the size of it and decided against it. Oh well, I'm sure I'm overlooking many money makers all the time. Sometimes I look on eBay when I see something that looks like a deal, but most the time I go by what I know or have a hunch on. I don't buy primarily to resell. I'm looking for my out of pocket investments in cheap gold, silver, antiques and time pieces. When I retire I my do a more picking and selling of a broader variety of things, because I'll have more time to do that then. In a way I've been lucky having a job that's covers all the travel expenses for the last 25+ years now and that's been for me a darn cheap way to learn things. I pretty much hunt the retail places such as pawn shops, thrift stores, buyers of precious metals and pretty much every antique shop along the way. Auctions, yard sales and estate sales I just don't have the time for, but I'm sure I'm missing out on some real treasures by not hitting those every weekend.

Great looking watch, Personally I’m actually wearing one again after cellphone dependency. Bought a couple if old wind-up timex and couldn’t be happier. No batteries to buy and nearly fell over when I found out the Timex my brother had in Vietnam is $100-150 selling on e-bay. Word if caution locally there was a fellow selling Rolex, Breitling & Tag watches complete with correct box from China. He took them into a pawn shop & a high end Rolex dealer the plating was thick enough to fool the electronic detector on a 18k presidential, proper hologram everything they bought them or took in trade for reduced price on a new diver stainless or diamond marker. It took them almost a year to catch on to the scam. Shows even the pros that deal with them daily can be fooled. I have one that has a broken sapphire crystal that he tossed me when he got the cease and desist letter served as a souvenier. The stores all refused to prosecute and quietly bought back the fakes. We couldn’t prosecute without the stores and they were all to embarassed that they were fooled. 1 stamped the case bake fake & gave them away but kept the boxes as they were real. Seems they came from the factory that the companies were using.

Oh yeah, the faking of these popular brand watches is epidemic. I've seen them in pawn shops being sold as the real deal a few times.

They are faking lower end watches too. Things like Movado, Hamilton, Victornox etc.
