Ahhhhh.. that feels Soooooo goooood... I didn't have too long today to get out and swing my stick but I managed to sneak in about an hour's hunt at the end of the day. Being Day 2 of three days off and my wife returns from her out of town seminar, I had to be both domestic, and the supportive attentive husband that she so dearly wishes I was more often. Ok ok ok.. I'm laying on too thick. Although my dear wife did return this afternoon from her out of town seminar, I actually fell asleep late this morning watching TV (sometime around 11AM) and awoke when my wife shook me out of my slumbering stupor.. sometime around 3:00 PM. I guess yesterday took it's toll on me today, physically. You see I have another passion besides coin fishing.. Occasionally I like to go REAL fishing.. for Fish even! Yesterday (Wednesday) a buddy of mine from work and I loaded up his car and went across half the state of Kentucky to do some Trout Fishing at the tail waters of the Cumberland River, below Wolfe Creek Dam, on Lake Cumberland. The dam is leaking. So the state lowered the water level of Lake cumberland..which by the way, feeds the icy cold water from its depths through the spill gates into the lower reaches of the Cumberland River.. making ideal habitat for cold water loving species of fish like Trout (brown and rainbow) striped bass, and smallmouth bass. Now up close to the dam the water is still very cold and not a problem for the trout, but some distance downstream it's another story.. the water temperatures are rising and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife are concerned that there will be a major fish kill due to the warmer water. In order to head off a senseless waste of fish, they instituted a temporary relaxation of size limits and species limits, and greatly increased the possession limits for trout. Halfway down the river from the dam to the Tennessee state line (Burkesville Ky.), anything below that point is relaxed.. meaning can catch a LOT of trout and keep everything.. well up to the ten per day per person limit. <grin>
WOO HOO!!!! I went fishing!!! And I caught a few.. only one that I actually landed, and even with no size limitations I was embarrassed to keep him.. a little brown that could someday grow to be a monster.. *sigh* My buddy did much better than I, and that sucks.. in a way.. he's not been fishing for 6 years.. and we go out and he puts me to shame!.. Oh well, good for him. He brought home four nice sized trout, about 17 to 20 inches long. One big brown, and three rainbows. I helped him clean the fish when we got home, and he sent me home with one of his fish..<wiping a tear away> that was awfully nice of him. <smile>
Anyway. I spent, WE spent the whole day up to our wastes in COLD water, getting sunburned and having the time of our lives! We must have walked (waded) some three miles or better of rocky slippery river bottom yesterday. Today I paid for it, my body was tired. I sat down to watch part of a TV program and the next thing I know, my wife is shaking me awake. And again I return to where I began this post. Being domestic, (IE. washing my dirty laundry from yesterday's fishing expedition) Making nice with my spouse, taking her to either a very late lunch or a very early dinner.. served as both meals today. From there it was to the grocery store to do the weekly shopping. After returning home and helping put everything away, my wife decided that she needed a short nap since she'd been traveling and busy all day. Ah HA! I saw my chance! I could finally scratch that itch I'd been feeling all day yesterday and all day today. While my better half napped, I went detecting at one of the local elementary schools. The one that I attended many years ago in fact.
So there I am, surveying the lay of the land..... *sigh* It really is true what they say you know. "You can go back, but you can never go home." True true true. The only thing that doesn't change is that things are going to change. I'm trying to envision the playground as I remembered it from when I went to school here, but there's a driveway for buses now, and the playground is all but paved over. Some of the trees that I monkeyed around (in and under) as a child are not even there anymore, others are there that didn't exist. So, with the shadows getting longer I set out down the side of the sidewalk (at least that was there when I was a student at this school). I was getting hits right off the bat, unfortunately they were EVERYTHING. I had dialed back my discrimination to eliminate only iron (nails) on my Prizm IV. I was hoping to find some silver, or a small ring or something along those lines. Instead I was finding a lot of junk metal, beer cans, pop cans, pull tabs, foil drink covers, and bottle caps.
I did find another toy car..hotwheels! Some clad of course, a snap hook from someone's backpack or something, a lipstick holder, a tin tag with some sort of printing on it, can't read it yet. I found a wall anchor (unused) and an iron nail (it was with the tag) And last but not least.. well yeah maybe it is least.. a token of some sort. Probably from an arcade.
I was just about to get excited by it when I first uncovered it.. glowing brightly like gold!.. with the eagle on the front.. could it be?? Naaahhh.. when I flipped it over the whole story was right there.. "NO CASH VALUE" <laughing> Oh well it still held value for me. I got to scratch that itch to go metal detecting and I found stuff. That's the value of every find really. The enjoyment of the obsession.. er.. hobby.
Perhaps tomorrow I can get out a little longer and scratch a little deeper. Ahhh Yeahh.. that feels sooooo good! (in my mind) Oh Now Stop it People! Keep it clean! Sheesh!
