I am not talking about the 1974D, DDO, any other doubled coin, or the ones missing the engravers initials, "FG".

I am talking about errors such as Off Center Strikes, Clipped Planchets (coin blanks), Cracks and Cuds, Blank Planchets, and Lamination Errors.

I have looked thru a number of coins over the years and have not found even 1 in the above categories. Have You?

Here are two theories as to why not. Please post your finds and/or your reasons why more are not found.

1. The half dollar planchet is so large that it does not move around much once set into the collar of the die.

2. Half dollars are so large that any errors are very noticeable.

Like to hear your thoughts and finds.

I just found one with I believe to be a lamination error. In several places on the obverse of the half it looks like the top layer was peeled off and you can see the copper underneath. I'll try and get a pic on the site tomorrow for you.

I found an entire box of 97-P brand spanking new and every single one had a die crack across the entire obverse. I was ticked, I wanted silver... I ended up selling them for a modest profit anyway and kept a couple for myself.

Your theories are right on, CLZ. Errors on silver dollar sized coins are even tougher.

The only legit error I've found on a half is a tiny 1-2% clip that's barely a nip.

This came out of a box where a full one half was brand new 99d's. HH Mark

ME_CO ... that's one nice double clipped planchet!

In my time CRH'ing I've come across two clipped planchet Wheats, one double clipped planchet nickel and one off center strike half. I've come across many slightly off center strike coins and have thought of keeping the most of center coin for each denomination.

Found a '71 Ken clipped like Mark's, but only one clip, and not quite as deep.

Many years ago I found a dime that had a serious lamination error, only the head and center reverse had silver, everything else was copper. Traded it for $10 towards the price of my first detector ~ a Garrett BFO. It was worth the trade..... consider "many years ago"..... and how long BFOs have been obsolete - TRs and VLFs were the rage then.

Saw this post this morning and found this possible error this afternoon. What do you all think of it??

Front is slightly off center and the back appears normal. This is also a 1988 P Kennedy Half. Noticed someone else posted about a off center 1988 Half.

Your 1988 is what is known as a misaligned die. Pretty common.

I have found 3 clips (one double, one single and one single straight clip on a 40%). Have also found a few strike thru's, one looks like thru a wire and the other looks like there was some reeding that fell off another coin and it was struck thru that.

I found a 1974 DDO and a 1964 missing the L and I (thin planchet possibly)
