So this is a silver earring I dug up the other day. The hallmarks on it are A C in the circle and looks like a M in parentheses. If anyone has any ideas what this is or when it came from I would appreciate it.

don't know about the 'M' , but the C in the circle is the copyright mark. Its probably not very old. My guess is 1980's

Are you sure that's not a button?

I would say button, being 925, a really NICE button.

Think about that for just a second....
Why would there be a copyright on a button or earring?

The (C) is copywriting the Trade Mark (M).
Can't help on who the (M) is for though.
And I feel it is a button too.

:BangHead:
I was just trying to explore other possibilities, but I did learn a few things in the process.
Good luck!

in my experiences, most any silver jewelry that I have seen that bears the copyright logo seems to be made by small companies who seem to sell their evidently limited production items through stores like you see in the mall such as 'Hot Topic' or 'Claires'. The kind of stores where teenagers shop for 'cool' accessories. Also in my profession, I see many cheap rings which are designed nearly identical to very expensive rings. As soon as an expensive ring design is offered for sale, very shortly comes along a foreign company making a cheap (925) knock-off. I feel that the copyright logo on some of this low volume small company products helps to insure or safeguard against a large company 'stealing' their design and selling it in huge numbers at large retailers

Sorry I misspoke.
What I meant to say was Makers Mark.
and this is only a guess on my part.
Just trying to help in the search.
