Thats a 1658 counter stamped Spanish maravedis coin. Struck on an even earlier coin. the B is for Burgos. Looks like a 1641 counter stamp as well.

I have only a shallow knowledge in these & no books, but I immediately thought Spanish Copper. Is that date 1550!! (under the base line)?

I don't believe there were any XII countermarks with P III coins. 4 maravedis coins in 1599 were only worth 12 maravedis. The XII of PIV coinage is known on 1636, 1641 and 1642 coins. So, if Cross Potent sees the crowned 1641; I'm with him.

To all of you thanks for the replies. It is so hard to believe that this was found in a farm field in NJ. I was fortunate to be there for this incredible find along with his son. Again, thanks.

Which detector found this ?

It was found with a minelab. Not the 30/30 but its predecessor, on land and in a field.
