Hammered silver? cool old buckle need ID's ,knee buckle and a couple coppers

Mark Steponaitis & Robert Steponaitis invited me and Todd Hiltz to hunt a few cellar holes.the 1st site we all did well at.I got 2 KG II coppers. a real cool old buckle of which I have never seen before If anyone can tell me what kind of buckle this is.everything was old at this site.and a paper thin, possibly hammered silver coin? It's paper thin. I need a ID on this if anyone knows. Thanks for having us up Mark & Robert! had a blast even though we hiked our butts off and soaked with sweat not to mention the bugs :/

Nice hunt. Cant think of the name right off the top of my head, but its French Silver. Probably late 1600's to early 1700's. Awesome.. I want one of those.

Some great early finds there Dave. Looks like you stumbled across a site that dated back to the 17th century. That single loop buckle is definitely 1600s, and closely resembles the one at the bottom left in the pic below from "Buckles 1250-1800" by Whitehead. And that definitely looks like a hammered coin, but one I'm not immediately familiar with. Definitely not British and probably from some other European country. Glad to see you're still getting out.

If it is indeed a bonafide hammered coin it's likely to be a little older than that. But could it be French billon??

I didn't realize at first that the other pics showing the almost all copper disk were the same item as the "hammered coin". That should definitely be French billon with that silver wash over a copper base. I'm sure IP can verify. Still a nice find!!

Wow - that's a deceiving pic Dave. Looks for sure like the silver was flaking off. Based on what you're saying, that should definitely be a hammered coin as many were extremely thin. Don't have time to look it up tonight, but I'm sure someone will chime in soon. Outstanding find!

Thanks! yeah it's actually opposite of what you see.the crust is what flaked off.I sent you a private message on facebook with pics

From the top of my head, I thought that buckle was late 16th C!

The Billion hammered looks French to me.

Billion is debased silver. Nothing to see on the edge.

Great bunch of finds, I'm liking that silver coin! Definitely looks like some sort of hammered to me.
