Hammered silver? cool old buckle need ID's ,knee buckle and a couple coppers

Mark Steponaitis & Robert Steponaitis invited me and Todd Hiltz to hunt a few cellar holes.the 1st site we all did well at.I got 2 KG II coppers. a real cool old buckle of which I have never seen before If anyone can tell me what kind of buckle this is.everything was old at this site.and a paper thin, possibly hammered silver coin? It's paper thin. I need a ID on this if anyone knows. Thanks for having us up Mark & Robert! had a blast even though we hiked our butts off and soaked with sweat not to mention the bugs :/

this is the perfect time to ask. In the US, I see it as "billon" but there have been two British people who have said/spelled "billion." Is it pronounced/spelled differently there, or is it like "real" versus "reale" spelling?

That's one old coin and cool buckle congrats Dave!!!!!

That's a really early site buddy. It's funny because I found a 1600s shoe buckle and the billon coin from the same site. Now you find a very similar buckle and billon coin. Majority of these coins started as 1590s douzains. Very cool history with these buddy. IP knows a lot about these. Here's the buckle I found from that early site. I would pound that site man. That's got Mass silver type age

Great finds as always Dave! :occasion14:
I can honestly say that I've never heard of a 'billion hammered coin', I learn something new every time I log onto Tnet! :laughing7:
Hope you're having another great year and stay away from those Yellow Jackets buddy, they really seem to like you! :laughing9:
Dave

Congrats on the real old French, a tough find.
I believe there was one other posted in between Abe's, and this one.
And nice GEO II with readable date.

Beautiful buckle and a sweet early silver, congrats

That's a great find in the US! I've got a couple smaller French billons and even that very coin...but they are much more common here north of the border.

thanks everyone!

Great job!!! Can't wait for this summer.

Great group of finds Dave, and early too. Nice of those guys to invite you and Todd to a site they had obviously not pounded yet. That side plate you posted looks like it's from a Brown Bess.

WTG Dave on the very early finds! Is this your 1st 1600's era coin?
