hammers and groove making tool
the grooves in these big granite hammers are made by the tap tap, rub rub method with the harder smaller stone shown
it must have taken a while to make one of these hammers
I think they had many uses from pounding stakes and building construction
as well as breaking the large buffalo bones to get at the marrow inside
do you agree???
does any one else find these?
if so please post them for comparison

Nice hammer axes and mano :icon_thumright:....Personally I don't think they used the mano to make the groves, it would have been a lot smoother like the flat sides. just my personal opinion though....
 

Talk about some bone crunching. Hey I bet there stored meat in the winter was hard as rock Larson? I never thought about that.. Yeah those are some heavy duty peg driving bone crunching hammers for sure. Nice artifacts. Did you plow those up??
 

yes I must have because they were just laying in the field

Do you find alot of hardstone artifacts?They are as rare as hensteeth down here.
 

yes they are fairly common around here
we find 1 or 2 every year

I have found one piece of hard stone(quartz).I have been told it was a bolo,and that it was a hammer.I just am not sure...I will see if I can find a pic.
