If this is natural then this is the most perfectly natural hand axe I've ever seen. Well to be honest I just heard about hand axes so I've never seen another one like this. What do you guys think. Part of it does look like its been ground down.

IMHO......I think it has good possibilities of being what you suspect.

In what context was this found? Was it in a plowed field? A creek?

It looks natural to me.

I'm not seeing anything on that stone that would lead me to believe it was altered or utilized by man.

Not trying to argue, but it looks to me like one side shows original cortex, and the other side I'm thinking shows lots of material having been removed, last pic first post.
Not to mention the damage or possible use wear on the bit area only.

My bad. I guess should have watched the the video. I couldn't see anything in the pictures but it sure looks worked in the video. I stand corrected.

Natural or altered...not sure. It looks like it would make a dandy hide scraper. Maybe that's what it was used for with the polish on one side. Gary

Thanks for taking the time to take a second look Steve!

I don't think it's just a rock. Might be a little heavy for everyday use as a hide scraper, but weight would be good for some type of hand axe I guess. It looked like workable material to me, also.
