To me, this looks like a fragment of a colonial shoe buckle frame. :icon_scratch:

This has crossed my mind more than once. I’m nearly certain it’s not a buckle, as it has a seemingly intentional change in shape, whereas buckles are pretty uniform. It looks crudely made though, which made me wonder if it was hand made...are guns always known for fine crafting? Maybe earlier muskets had hand made parts?
