Hand made? WWII Aircraft toy/wall hanger?

Maybe one of you can tell me something about this item. I'm 99% sure it is made of balsa. It came out of a place I have been picking. Great Grandpa was a WWI veteran. Grandpa was a WWII veteran. This was found with some of the Grandpa items. Was wondering if it was possibly a kit that was assembled or if it was done freehand. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If it wasn't a kit, someone was very talented.

Often these were made by civilians during war time to assist in the war effort. Somewhere I have /had an article from a 1940s popular mechanics with dimensions and instructions for these 'solids'. Civilains carved them to help train airmen etc..

I think NH Ben has found exactly the WWII 'kit plane' that your great grandpa built.
My grandfather and father also served in both wars, all I have is my fathers WWII medals.
You're very fortunate to have so much military history in your families history... many thanks to your family for their service! :occasion14:
