Nicely made granite hard stone cone; 1.25" high 1.5" diameter. you can see some mineralization in this photo and some area of exfoliation

I took this photo without flash so you can see the underside dimple. Some exfoliation can be seen here as well.

Cool!

I have found a few of those up here, they are larger than yours tho.

What were they used for?

Not sure their use, but mine are pretty darn smooth on the flat bottom side.

And only one is concave on the bottom.

I have no idea what the cones were for.

I dont think the 'experts' have a definite use for them, only conjecture at this point but I would like to know.

I have 4 cones, this one, a slate cone, two quartz cones. all interesting and all an enigma in the true use.

To be honest and it's only my opinion, it resembles an eggstone or bola more than a cone, but who knows? Great piece, regardless. The only cone that I have is made from the poll end of a celt, by grinding the break down flat for it to sit on.

I wish the would have treated the poll end I found the way they did yours.

Here's the one I was telling you about. The fresh spot in the first picture is where an earthmoving machine scraped it and all that caught my eye. After plucking it out, I started scraping with my digger and found the point about 2 inches away. Not saying they were associated with each other, but they sure were close.

Nice!

Thanks for showing that piece!

Sounds like it was a productive hunt.
