Hardee hat pin converted to Eagle hat pin - Battle of Nashville

This is the sixth Hardee hat pin I’ve recovered from The Battle of Nashville. The pin was folded over several times and was eight inches deep nestled up against a nail.
I braved coolest day n August at 96 degrees to recover pin. I was using Equinox 600.

Unique, nice dig !! Have to wonder, why the conversion, camp boredom by a Union Soldier or with purpose by a Confederate, since both wore them. My theory, Rebs that used this pin removed the 13 stars and "E Pluribus Unum" in defiance. Even though it was a battle site can you tell us if it was recovered in Union or Confederate position in the field of battle ?

Rebel position. We find tinback I buttons there. Each hat pin I found has been cut on, so Rebs had just got Hardee hats. I believe they were cutting the Eagles out on December 15th, in the morning, and when they heard cannon fire they rushed to the front.
This one I recovered is perfect, so battle started & Reb folded it over to destroy it. Ohio & Wisconsin troops were where hats came from I believe. Oh… and it’s against regulation for union soldiers to convert US equipment, so they’re Confederate conversions.
