harness piece ,Rev War Related??? found with USA Button

The attachment is offset and not centered on the piece, Notice the arrow ends are designed differently and with different dimensions .I would think harness related, I found this with a USA Button at a 18th century home site. Any help identifying would be most appreciated.

yes, Very possible. I believe the arrow ends and the line/stripe type design means something in purpose.
 

I've seen similar thumb pieces on early fowlers. That would be the inlay that's on the top of the wrist of the gun. It would be attached by a screw that comes in from the underside of the wrist, through it and screws into the thumb piece. I hope that makes sense.
