The first of the Barley is now in.:icon_thumright:
As it happens this field had a Roman Site on it & we had only done it for 1 year (last year).
Bad news was that they cut the barley high & the stubble is 4inches at its lowest point & more like 6-7 in most places. Also the loose straw had yet to be gathered, which meant less space & less heavy machinery driving over the area (which makes it a little flatter).
Lastly it was one of the hottest days of the year (31) & pushing throw the stubble for 3.5 hours yesterday nearly killed me. It was not that enjoyable when good finds are scarce.
We got enough to make it worth it:

8 Roman Coins
Vicky Sixpence (Silver)
Melted Vicky 3 Pence (Silver)
18th C Complete Pewter Button with 'Iron' Shank (scarce in this condition)
17th C Token
Tudor Book Clasp
Broken 1st C Roman Brooch/Fibula
Frag of Bronze Age Socketted Axe
Iron Hammered - Anyone know the age? (Looks pretty old)

planishing hammer. dunno how old.

At least they start harvesting! Stubble fields will soon be drilled and more will show up! :hello2: With Bronze Age and Roman in one field i expect more goodies from you the next outings, can't wait!

Roman Coin picture added to the first post.

Holy moly Crusader..great stuff !! btw..I have close family in Edinburgh, and for a while have been wanting to drag the family over the big pond to visit them..and since starting to detect again, I would absolutely LOVE to take my machine with me and do some quality hunting as yourself. Crusader..off the subject..are you familiar with the disastrous fire at King's Cross Railway Station..I believe in 1987? 31 people perished..30 were identified, as there was a "John Doe" for many years. The John Doe was my grandfather, Alec Fallon. Thanks for sharing, as usual your finds are off the charts!!...ddf

Harvest time indeed, man you find some nice OOld stuff over there!

The melted Vicky thruppence looks as though it was domed or fashioned into a button or some such ? nice finds .

I don't know much about detecting in Scotland, but there are a couple of members on here. (although not seen them post in awhile)
What I do know is you need an export licence for any dug item over 50 years old. So pretty much every button etc you dig.
I'm not familar with that fire although I've been to Kings Cross many times.

Nope, it's just 'folded' up with the intense heat.

Jee wis crusader, I'd wouldn't call that scarce! Those finds are incredible. You must be spoiled, lol
I'd be so happy to find just one Roman coin. Maybe they are like stinking Lincoln's to you guys?

Great hunt, and hoping you return once the stubble is gone.

Nothing stinking about them, we GPS every one, plus loads of recording. But if you mean we get a lot, yes we average about 1-2 an hour.

Another great day for you guys !!!

The heat kills me and the bugs on top of it is just cruelty to the body.....but them finds would drive me out in the fields for sure.!!!

Some interesting finds there for sure.
