Has anyone tried faceting a marble into a stone for pendant or ring?

I suppose you could facet one. Many marbles have bubbles and other imperfections, as well as weak areas that may affect the faceting. Also, some marbles are made with a base color with other colors veneered to the surface, causing some weakness.

I know that some people re-polish or tumble old marbles to make them shine again.

I'd say it's worth a try! In fact, I have hundreds of marbles that are broken in half and I am going to try and finish grind and bevel them like cabochons to use in jewelry.

Good luck!

Don't tumble them..

Old marbles will disintegrate when tumbled. I tried it with my Lorton tumbler. It's best to make cabochons from them. If you've only got a few antique marbles I'd advise using a standard thickness diamond-embedded blade. Or use a thinner blade to get several cabochons per marble. Antique marble cabochons would be perfect for rings, earrings, etc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabochon
