Has the World Gone Nuts?

We had one from my families hometown called the "Coggon Monitor", same, same, same, I used to visit every weekend (from the city) and was always in the paper, a lot of notoriety for a five year old. Those old folks whose kids had moved to the city sure did enjoy having young company, just couldn't visit without eating.
Was there a few years ago, not much changed, maybe a little sadder as the kids move farther and farther away and visit less.
I had a chance to read some of the obits for the local guys that died in WWII, talk about some compassionate and heartfelt good byes. Just make you cry to read them. Those small town papers had a need and a respect for good writing and their citizens. Even if the daily updates were sometimes pretty formula.
Seems like journalism has denegrated into a concentrated boil spewing yellow sensationalism.
Pretty sure I was in Holstein quite awhile back, 40 or 50 years, Granddad bought a mean ass bull around there, as I remember the town it was like universal (my own) small town IA, everybody's mostly friends, and people don't screw up because they know it's wrong, not out of fear of getting caught.
A good time was had by all, jim

And now the internet has made that 'small home town' one heck of a lot bigger, neighbours

we used to have that also.

they even posted a list from the hospitals
that went out with the aids epidemic
and right to privacy.

still wondering when the police blotter
and court records will
go that way of right to privacy.

The last few years they started kinda bringing back some of police blotter not completely and if its a false arrest you are s%^& out of luck to get them to print anything but the arrest. And I remember reading the hospital notes who was in and who was released and if they had a baby they went home with new --- on the --- named after grandpa --- all that stuff and the bull reminded me of Mr. Jones bull got out and of course everyone in town know you don't go near the Jones place wit out an invite if the heard is in the pasture up by the house just cause that bull is just plain mean! And so is Mr. Jones. The ladies in Mrs Jones bridge club can tell you all about ....

I'd love to see criminal and other cases not publicized until after it's been through the courts and been decided.
Keep things like OJ and dead blondes and private custody and other matters out of the news until the case is over and decided.
I agree, the world has always been nuts. When we were all less educated, we didn't notice it so much.

Also in those small towns divorce agreements are in the paper . The Smiths got a divorce . She keeps the house and the children . She gets the van and he gets the pick-up . He will give her XXX dollars a week for the 3 children as well as paying for their medical coverage at his job . And on and on . You couldn't hide anything in those small towns .
