I think this is where this should be posted. Found it over 20 years ago in a huge pile of large gravel that could have come from anywhere. Don't have a scale to weigh it but seems to be a little heavier than a rock its size. Looks like barnacles or something in water on one side. The color is gray and don't know if you can see in the pic. but has fine lines running the length all the way around. Can you shed some light on my 20 year mystery?

Thanks Jimmy T

It is what is commonly known as "horn coral". You should check out the Falls of the Ohio near you and it will really put it into perspective. Thanks of sharing.

Thanks Chuck,
The Falls of the Ohio Museum and Park or only about 20 minutes from my house and I would have never thought about it. Have read there web site and they have meetings I think once a month where regular people can bring things and have them looked at by experts. Can't believe I never put two and two together.
Thanks Again Jimmy T

Jimmy good luck. I know of a couple of sites across the river from you in Jeffersonville IN. I found cystoids, crinoids, and trilobites there. It is a Silurian reef and pretty darn neat. If you are interested shoot a pm my way.

They have found a jar with a petrified pickle in it! Found in an old house! I read it sometime ago. But it does look like one!
