Hello folks!
Had a second look at something i found the other day. Thought it was some melted metal, but after cleaning it and putting it in a vinegar and salt bath, i started wondering if it might be silver.
I went back to the same spot today and found another lump of the same kind, and an even bigger one that i don't know what is. The bigger one is still in the bath getting clean, so i will post some more photo's when it's done.
I was using the Go-find 40 and it was the strongest signals that i have come across so far, but i have only used it about 3 times already (i'm a total rookie).
Do any of you know what i have found?

That looks like oxidation (rust) that occurs with ferrous metal.

Put a magnet to it, and see if it sticks.

Yeah there's definately rust on the bigger piece. Seems like there are "crystals" or rock attached to it aswell, but i might be wrong.
Tested with a magnet and none of them are magnetic.

Are the pieces heavy for there size? Some times when silver is melted it will get a weird oxide. Not sure though.

Yes, they are quite heavy compared to size. I thought lead at first, but it's too hard to be lead. The slim edges can be bent and cracked with a little force, so might be slag of some sort? A small piece broke off one of them and it was completely blank and shiny.

I say, not, keep looking.

I've recovered silver this way from where there was an old house fire. Most of the time these blobs end up being tin or pewter. I take the likely suspects and melt them down with a MAPP gas torch, some charcoal and borax. I can tell if it starts melting too soon if its tin or pewter. After melting and I have a little bar I scratch it with a nail to see how hard it is and then use acid test to verify. More work than what its worth most of the time.... but its fun to me. I melt it on a fire brick on an incline and let it run into a "tinkers dam". A cheap mold made of dough.
