So I found this Sunday at a old ranch site. (Quarters not included)
Dug with horse tack, early full brass shotguns brass (12,10 & 8ga.). early 44-40 & 45-90 cases, even a Henry 32 short and pocket watch parts to name a few other items found.

This I think is a side plate to something, but what???

It is brass was silver washed, most of that came off when I cleaned it.
The main body is 2 3/4" long by 2" tall, the "handle" is 2 3/4" long by 1/2" at it's widest.
On the "handle" part it has G.Penfield & Co. Manuf'rs Phila. stamped.

I've given it my feeble internet search try and came up with nothing.
Any and all help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

there was a Penfield manufacturing company that made mattresses and bedroom furniture, based in Philadelphia, maybe it was made by them. Very cool relic though!

Looks like the winder from a wind up measuring tape.

I did find that in my Google search, but couldn't figure out how it could be used.
I'm really hoping that someone has found one in more complete shape.
