Have to love this area!

Got up early this morning to go out to the wash and get materials before it started getting to hot to haul stuff. Sitting on the deck having my coffee I saw 4 different kinds of humming birds, a covey of quail as well as a heard of deer (Muleys) that decided that my recirc system on the sluice would make a good watering trough. I'm going to have to put out something for them to get water from that doesn't have Jet-Dry in it!!!

There are so many people that do not realize just how much life there really is out here in the desert. If the gold was as plentiful in this area as the wildlife this would be pure heaven!

I've had countless talks with "townies" over the years and the first question is always "why do you go camping in the desert? There's nothing out there besides dirt and rocks". They don't realize the amount of life that thrives out there. From lizards that do the "push-up" thing to golden eagles soaring high overhead,
and coyote dens with pups playing nearby, mule deer, antelope, wild horse herds, wild burros (in Nevada), badgers, kit foxes, both jackrabbits and cottontails,
bullsnakes and rattlesnakes, bobcats, and dozens of other life forms. They also have no idea of the hundreds of springs, many of which are hot springs that provide relaxing soaks after a days hike. I used to try and talk the wonders of the desert, but realized its better keeping it a secret!

P.S. Here's just a partial list of great hot springs we have camped at: Boggs, Wilson Ranch, Gerlach, Kyle, Seven Devils, Hyder,
The Geysers, Hot Creek, Soldier Meadows. Not one of these has fees for camping, they're all in the middle of nowhere.

Gerlach?!?!?! I've got a friend that lives there! That reminds me that I need to get in touch with him as we haven't talked for a while.

I agree with you Fullpan! I say we keep just how great the desert is a secret. If we don't, the next thing you know we'll have stripmalls and housing developments everywhere! I came out here to get away from all that and I don't want it to follow me!
