Hays electronics

I need input on the Hays electronics metal detector. This is the two box type with one box being the receiver. I friend purchased it a year ago and the directions are poor at best. Theyasked me to try it to see if I could get it to work as they are having trouble with it and are frustrated. I don't think it was intended as a coin shooter as all you have to go by is the tone. there is no explanation on the how to interpit the tones. Your comments would be appreciated.
