thats an easy fix dave. do they have radio shack in japan? get a 1/4 inch male plug and solder the two wires onto the terminals on the plug and you will be good to go. im pretty sure that it wont matter which wire goes to which terminal in this instance. any way its hooked up it should work.

I have a set of Radio Shack light weight stereo headphones that have seen hard use over a year and they haven't broke a cord yet. They're so cheap that they are nearly disposable. Monty

I wonder how many people have had that problem. I have had the same head phones for 15 years and still works great. Burdie

When I first started I was always getting tangled up in my headphone cord. With experience I learned to always be sure it's out of the way when I dig. A couple of times I nearly cut the line on the cheap light weight ones since they don't have recoil cords. I can see how it could happen and spoil your hunt if you didn't take a spare. I always carry a spare just in case. Monty

RAT PHONES, replaceable cord headphones, are seperate from cord, replceable with radio shack guatar amp cord look into it...

If you continue to use plain stereo headphones this will continue to happen. They just aren't made for flexing. That said, make sure the wire doesn't take a strain or sharp bend at the plug. Sometimes you can resodder as has been said. But for dependable operation, get a good set. Myself, I use Grey Ghost, but there are others out there that will work.

I've Had 1 cord break near the plug and i replaced the plug with a "right angle plug" that i purchased at radio shack for about $2.00 and soldered it on and it seems to be better than the one that stuck straight out. Hope this helps.
