sometimes i just wear them around my neck, i can still hear the chattering but i can also hear if a bear rolls up on me LOL

:)

I wear them all the time to hear the faint deeper signals. I use wireless headphones though so they don't have a problem getting the cord snagged in the trees and bushes.

Headphones do a few good things. First, they block out noise for others, important if you are hunting in a public area, they allow you to hear the target sounds better and they reduce the drain on your battery. So, I always wear them, but not the big heavy muffs that cover your ears. Too hot, sweaty and hard on your hair. I buy smaller versions that are used for I pods and such. They are much lighter and less expensive. You just need to buy an adapter to convert the jack from 1/8 to 1/4. The cheaper price, around $20 or less allows me to keep an extra pair or two in the car in case one craps out or breaks during a hunt.

Good info, many thanks!!

All good info. You might want to try on several pairs to see if one type is more comfortable that another. I find a vast difference between makes and models. Sound quality is another factor. In some venues, like the beach on a summer day, you'll end up looking like the pied piper if you don't wear headphones. Every beep will have all the kids digging in the sand for you if you have an open speaker.

I just replaced mine this week. I got the Garret Clearsound Easy Stow Headphones for about $20. I liked them because I can turn the ear piece and use either one and not having to listen to both. I like being able to do that at more public places so I can hear other folks around me.

I have never NOT used them. Cant wait to try my new Grey Ghost Amphibians, if it ever quits flipping snowing!!!! If its to warm, I wear them around my neck

I looked at those today, but was afraid to order them, now I think I will, so thanks for the good review! You all might think I am a bit nutty, but I can't even keep the ones I have around my neck, I think I may have been strangled in a past life or something. I don't even like wearing turtlenecks or scarves.

If you don't like headphones, you could try ear buds. When I use them, I use the drop in style (not the type that is pushed in the ear canal). I don't like the push in style, they are uncomfortable.
With the drop in that hang in your ear, you can hear your signals and also hear what's going on around you. Similar to hanging the headphones around your neck but without the discomfort.
If they get snagged, they just pull off your ear(s). I have yet to damage the tiny cord from the pull out, and its happened often. Most ear buds are 16 Ohm, but there are a few that are 32 Ohm (Get the 32 Ohm).
Fortunately the lower priced ones are generally 32 Ohm so you can try them for under $5.

Would you like to talk about it?:tongue3:

IMHO headphones are the most important accessory after the detector. Find whatever is comfortable/tolerable to you and get used to wearing them. You'll quickly find that through headphones you will much more be "one" with your detector and the signals it delivers.

I have never been a fan of the earmuffs style headphones. Try what I did. RadioShack sells a 1/4" to headphone jack adapter for about $6 and wear ear bud type. More comfortable. And if your concerned about safety you can leave on out and have the other in
