Heart Heel Plate...??

Hello,

I found what they say is a "rare" heart heel plate about 2 years ago... Its small, like child sized. One of my first finds with the AT pro, anyone have any idea what they (Heart Heel Plates) are worth ?

Since people are posting theirs and people like this thread. Here is a picture of the one I found, sadly I hit one side with my shovel I really hope someone can put a value on these things for us.

Yeah that's the same thing Don't worry I'm happy you posted a pic. That is in about the same condition as mine. I heard they are kinda rare and I can only find a half of one on E-bay !!

Now you got me going too guys.I have found one too at a CW campsite and have always seen these connected with other Civil War artifacts, google it and you will find these predominantly tied to CW digs. Other TNet posters have likewise included them in their camp finds.They were not children's heel plates, the smaller size to them was common on 19th century boot heels. I have seen multiple different design elements on these, but the heart ones seem to always come up in CW sites. I have read up on what some call the"lady in waiting" sign that Gary eluded to.I am not sure I am buying into that unless there is documentation of such a practice. Following a heel print across a street made of dirt and mud seems like hard work when in the old western towns, everyone knew where to find the "ladies". Besides a footprint would be hard to follow on certain surfaces...and the list could go on and on about why that whole notion seems unrealistic. Anyways, if anyone can shed light on the truth about these, I am sure a whole lot of us would appreciate it...facts only please. BTW they sell for 30 to 50 bucks on certain websites. p.s. here is mine, sorry

I remember reading that these were in fact used by civil war soldiers and the designs were based on a deck if cards. Hearts, clubs, spades etc. if I remember correctly the different designs were used for different groups of soldiers and the hearts were worn by cavalry soldiers. I will try to find this story and who the hell knows if it's true. You would think that there would be much more info on it if it was indeed civil war related but sometimes things slip through the cracks I suppose.
Mine was one of my first finds ever. It was found at an old cellar hole but unfortunately I've never been able to find any info on the homestead owners. This has reignited my desire to get to the bottom of it.

I too have read the same info as you stated. But I do not think I read that these were standard issue, but were part of the Union soldiers gear, rather than Confederate...but still perhaps privately issued. If this is in fact true, then all the soldiers that walked there way back to their home ground after the War would no doubt brought these back with them on their boots. That may explain why they are sometimes found on old homesteads in the north that were not related to any troop movements. These heel plates could have fallen off or been lost anywhere between the soldiers going home and long after during peace time. I know that a lot of you out there have found them.

So I attempted some research on this subject today and now I am way more confused and have zero answers lol. Some say military, some say prostitures, some say both and some say neither. Some sell them as confederate relics and some as Union relics. So I have no idea and I've decided that nobody else seems to know either but the prostitute thing seems very unlikely to me. And I don't believe there was many prostitutes deep in the Maine woods. So I apologize but I am no help at all

I don't think they are military cause I don't see infantry running around in high heels.. I don't see them as call girls cause I found mine in the middle of the woods... I honestly think they are for children, mine is really small !!
