I love this section of the forum. All ya'll are more right than wrong.

With that being said, check out this chunk of metal.

Marked as "J. Long No 3"

I suspect it's an old plowshare, but haven't been able to locate anything like it on the interwebs.

This came from a site that was inhabited from around 1800-1860.

Any ideas?

think you are right. searched google books for "J. Long plow" and this came up from the "Congressional serial set: Issue 1422 - Page 678"
