Found on late 1700's to present farm. Was next to an old horse shoe so thinking something barn/farm related? It is very heavy. I *think* the one side says MWC and the other side says PAT..... I assumed Pat Pending but the part after Pat looks more like PNL or PHL or EMLT. :dontknow: I know it is hard to see the letters in my photos and honestly in real life too. :laughing7:
I wondering if the top lifted off and then maybe it opened? I can't tell beneath all the rust and gunk if there are hinges or not. But if it opens then why the holes all the way through??
I found Military Watch Company for MWC but can't imagine what this has to do with watches. It's way too heavy for a watch case.

Looks like an old cast iron rim lockset from a door. Do a Google search on rimlock or rimlatch and see if you think that is it.

Mallory Wheeler & Co. of New Haven Connecticut used the mark ‘M.W.CO’ (no ampersand) on their products. They made locks and lock fitments. Established in 1834 and went bankrupt in 1913.
