I am so enjoying my new found hobby, or should I say obsession, of dirt fishing! I am suddenly very fascinated with the bullet casings I have been finding. I spent a couple of hours in a local park today and found this No 12 U.M.C. CO. New Club casing. I don't know much about, but understand that it is old, and that makes it really cool in my book. Any feedback for this Newbie is welcome and much appreciated!

UPDATE - Added better photos. The photo of the back side you can still see the paper from the shell, so I am not cleaning it out!

That is a Good one, Union Metallic Cartridge Company (UMC) in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
It would be from about 1870's to 1910 or some where in there.
Nice Find :icon_thumright:

Would you happen to know a lot about old ammo? I found three casings the other day in a historical area, and they are not even headstamped. I showed them to a friend of mine, and he thinks they are very old-mainly because of the fact they weren't even stamped. He measured them and they appear to be .44-.45 cal. I have some photos of them alone, but they are also pictured in my previous post thread. There are absolutely no markings....

And it's for a 12 gauge shotgun...d2

Wow! ...all the old shells I find you can't read....nice

Turtlefoot on here is a Guru on headstamps....he gets all of I dig(I need to send him a box full come to think of it!!)

Shoot, send him a pic of my find and let's see if we can get his feedback too! I found this in a historical area known for a spanish invasion of our county in the 1700's!

From what I have read today, it was produced by the Union Metallic Cartridge Co. between 1887-1911. In regards to my find with the star, it's listed as being the first in production of the sort, which would place the production around the late 1800's.

Excuse me sorry for the misquote on date-1867-1911
