I don't know what it is, but I bet someone here on treasurenet might know what it is. Surly it's something historic from the looks of it.

Welcome to Tnet.

That's a nice find. It looks to me like a British militia shoulder (belt) plate, but I don't recognise the monogram... or rather I can't actually read it. Definitely a British royal crown above, of the type in use up until 1901, but it will probably be Georgian.

Where did you find it?

Iron back with what looks like a rusted tongue and an iron wire loop at the bottom dates this piece to the 20th century. It is a Queens Ranger 1st American regiment piece more likely world war 2. If this piece was solid brass or solid silver with lugs or mushroom shaped post on the back and a sharp pointed prong to insert into a leather strap I would conclude it was 18th century. Go to ebay and type in Queens Rangers you will see many Queens Ranger world war 2 pieces for sale. Where was it found? School yard, house lawn, fair grounds, city park? Nice find. Regards.
