Thanks for having me in. I'm a neophyte prospector with 1 summer under my belt. I started out the summer before last with an Estwing pan and a plastic classifier and got the bug. I was given a 50 inch backpacking sluice for Father's Day and I've hauled it around the state looking for gold. I live in the western part of the state and have prospected around Durango and Silverton, Breckenridge and Aspen. I've also muddled about in all the local creeks that have been known to show color.
Over the winter I received permission to poke around a claim outside of Leadville in St. Kevins Gulch and one up near the old Gold King mine in La Plata Canyon outside of Silverton, so I'm really looking forward to my 2nd season.
I've spent this winter being antsy for getting out again and learning about things pertaining to the hobby.
The never ending learning curve is one of the things that appeals to me most about prospecting. In fact, I'm here because of my tracking down info on fluid beds. I was referred here by someone from another prospecting forum that has been quite helpful to me who said that this was a great place for info, so here I am.
My other interests are keeping my mule, an old Land Rover, on the the prospecting trail and being a grandpa.
