I bought my first detector (Fisher F4) several years ago with the idea that I'd get my feet wet (in the hobby) without investing too much money. My original purpose was to find an enjoyable means of exercising - something fun, so I'd actually do it - in order to help combat chronic Lyme disease and the severe fatigue that goes with it.

I really enjoyed metal detecting so I next purchased and Etrac and a G2. Earlier this year I traded those two detectors in and purchased a V3i and a CTX 3030 (and a Eurotek pro - hoping my wife will get into metal detecting). I'm in the process of learning the v3i and CTX 3030; thus far I am very impressed with both of the machines and believe that I made a good choice for my particular whims. I do miss the G2 though - perhaps I'll get another at a later date.

I mostly hunt private property (with permission, of course) and concentrate on finding coins/jewelry. I bought the CTX with the idea of getting into beach hunting (salt water - as I live fairly close to the shore).

Health issues keep me from detecting as often as I'd like, but I do go out whenever I'm feeling up to it and have yet to be completely skunked (I don't mind finding clad - it spends just fine and it gives me some exercise).

My main "hobby" is photography. I do manage to make a bit of money with my photography, but it's more of a hobby than a job.

I guess that's about it, but I would like to thank everyone for their contributions. I have learned a lot just by reading the forums and I really appreciate the fact that people take the time to share their experiences with others.
