Hello, I live and play in Maryland and the Chesapeake bay. Very excited about my new hobby. I am hoping my new Excaliber 2 detector brings a few hobbies together as one. Detecting, scuba and boating. Any way I went out on my first terrestrial hunt yesterday. Not expecting a lot while getting accustomed to my new detector. Figured I would be digging a lot of trash. Did pick up a old small and very narrow horseshoe. Horseshoes are a dime a dozen in horse country in Northern Baltimore. But the size and shape makes it a keeper, very unique. Then the "big" find of the day. Granted it was my first day out ever. I pulled a brass head stamp of a 12 gauge shotgun shell. Stamped on it was UMC CO. NEW CLUB No 12. It has a star around the primer. After posting on this site I had many helpful posts. And I learned that it dates between 1867- 1911. Most likely 1910-1911. This community is so helpful. I am so excited to be part of this forum and family of detectorists.
