I have been collecting coins for years, mostly gold and silver collectible coins. I want to start searching rolls, I could use some advise. I am hoping you can get a noob started! :)

1- How many boxes of each denomination is should I get per bank? For what I read here some banks tend to give folks a hard time.

2- I have been looking at hording cooper pennies, is the Ryedale the top machine or is there a better one out there? Are there any sorting machines that will sort silver?

3- Other than silver, I know wheat pennies are desirable, what other coins are desirable?

I do not know much about older coins, know quite a bit about the moderns. I started coin collecting in 2007 and most of my coins are modern coins.

Thanks

Thanks for the welcome!

The first thing you need to decide what it is you are searching for.

If you want silver, I prefer halves and dimes.
I have no interest in copper because it ties up my swing (the money you use to Coin Roll Hunt).

If I were you, I would go easy until you have the whole dumping method perfected.
You need more than enough dump banks to get started.

Best to ya....Keep on Rollin' !

Some banks pay by the box to get coins, while others have a monthly flat fee from the carrier, and can order as much coin as they want.

The banks that pay per box are paying up to $4.75 per box, as I have read, and those boxes are creating more work for the tellers. In some cases, those boxes are tying up valuable space in their vaults.

If you can't find a bank to order coin each week, you might have to just try to buy boxes at any bank that has them to spare.

Building relationships...as well as being pleasant and personable to tellers and managers...that is typically the key to success in this hobby.

Thanks for the suggestions, I read the beginners guide "very helpful". I am going to start tomorrow "well technically I started today" I bought a box of dimes, one of quarters and one of nickels a year ago and finally went trough the dimes. Did not find any silver dimes :(

Stick with it. Open accounts at all the major banks in your area, they are most likely to order boxes of halves for you with no issues, also most likely to allow dumping with no issues. Halves will produce, dimes are time consuming, hard on the eyes, etc. One 40% half equals finding 2 silver dimes, one 90% half equals finding 5 silver dimes. Start ordering halves boxes, first by 2, then 4, etc. You will get into the swing of it. Read your tellers, read the manager/vault teller/lead teller, you can tell a lot by how people react to your questions.

Well today I ended up hitting the banks. I did not find any 50 cent rolls but tellers where happy to order some for me. So i have two diff banks ordering 4 boxes each for Friday. one of the tellers told me that they had some that they just returned to central bank because they where not moving "good sign right?" Doesn't that mean that other hunters are not hitting the bank?

Yup....how I love it when tellers get the "deer in the headlights" look when asked for the first time about ordering half dollars, or other CRH procedures.

I just love to CRH all alone.....

Keep on Rollin' !

always make nice with tellers. one day they may make you some money

Plenty of coins are desirable, I enjoy nickels. Buffalo Heads, Shield, War Nickels (silver!), Liberty Nickels, and I even keep pre-60. All depends what you enjoy! HH
