It is a 20th Century "copper-jacketed" lead bullet. You may have heard of the movie titled "Full Metal Jacket" -- which is the military term for bullets like yours. You did not tell us your bullet's size, but comparing it with your thumbnail in the photo, it appears to be a .45-caliber ACP bullet, originally made for use in .45 Colt Auto pistols, and .45 Thompson ("Tommy-Gun") submachine guns.

From the fingers I'd say a .32 ACP bullet.
