I have a Shaddow Echo II metal detector for the early 1990s with a 5-pin coil connector (see pic).

I'd like to attach the Shaddow Echo II to a Detech 15x12" butterfly search coil made for a Tesoro 5 pin detector. I remember hearing that the Shaddow detectors were made by a joint venture with Tesoro. I was wondering if the 5-pin connector for the Shaddow Echo II and Detech coil match and would the combination work? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here's some specs on the X2...

Specifications:
 Ultra-Light Design Only 32 oz. (2 lbs)
 Turn-On-and-Go Mineral Free Operation
 Silent Search Discrimination Mode
 VLF fast Response Discriminate Mode
Operating Modes Discriminate, Coin Check and Pinpoint
 Operating Frequency 9.6 - 10 khz
Search Coil Type 7 Inch, Thin Profile, Round Concentric (Waterproof)
Search Coil Compatibility Compatible With all Tesoro All-Purpose Coils

I can't locate the X2's manual online, but most likely the manual is not going to give you the "pin-out" details you need of the 5-pin coil connector. As you are eluding to, other coil manufacturers make coils for the Tesoro, so are they compatible? Maybe contact some of the vendors here on TNet and ask them. Hope this helps...

The original Shadow was made by Tesoro, the Shadow X5 and X2 were made by Fisher.

Respectfully differ. The Shadow X2 (which is the original as far as I'm aware) was based on the Tesoro Silver Sabre. The X3 andX5 were based on a Fisher. The 5 pin coil should work as far as connecting goes, but as the X2 is a preset ground balance detector, it may not perform up to par unless the detector is tuned with that coil attached.
