Help dating saw medallion

Just dug this beauty. Looking for house site. Field was quite as a church mouse and this blew out mt ear drums. Thought it was a dandy button until I saw the shank. About the size of a quarter. Looks like a lion and unicorn . The writing is almost gone but I can make out "Manufactured by Marshes and Shepherd Sheffield". The center has "Warranted Superior", which from what I've read is a generic brand for several makers. The problem is I can only find razor blades from these makers, and can't find an example of this exact medallion to nail down a date range. Looks 1800's to me.

According to that site the company changed to Marsh Brothers after 1840. Didn't think it was that old! Might be why it's hard finding any info. It says 1780-1815 was Marsh and Shepherd. I'll sign up for the lumberjacks site and see if they can help!

How do you find this stuff? I tried googling the name and just got a lot of collectible razor info.

It’s going to be from sometime around the end of the 1820s up to 1850 at the latest.

The company originally made cutlery as “James Marsh & Co” (established in 1810) and the partnership later included his sons, William and John… hence becoming “Marshes” in the plural. James’ son-in-law Thomas Shepherd then became a senior partner during the mid-1820s and the company changed name to “Marshes & Shepherd” at that time.

They began to market steel, saws, files, and other types of edge tools from about 1828 and America became a leading customer. The company was dissolved In 1850 but replaced by “Marsh Bros & Co” formed by the two sons William and John Marsh.
