Help found first flat button.

Dug my first flat button and don't know anything about them. Does anybody know any info on it. It's about the size of a nickel. Has a loop on the back. I can make out the word GILT and there are some stars the only other readable thing is the letter R air on the back the front is smooth. I'll post a couple of pics in a minute. Any help on dating it or other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's similar to that that gives me a good idea on the date. I'll try try to get a better pictures in the sun tomorrow. Should I try to clean it up. Thanks for the info Jude
