I think the item is a hood latch for a heavy duty truck. Like a semi, where the hood flips forward. The latch has a coil spring inside the body, and when the hood is shut, you pull it and it will hook into a catch.

Not sure about that hood latch, never seen one with wood... :icon_scratch:

I thought it looks like rust. Judging by the rifle shell on the left side, the item is about 5-6" long.

One says 45-60 W.C.F. and W.R.A.Co., the second is marked 11 13 and F. A, and the third is 30 W.C.F and W.R.A.Co..

The first one is 45-60 Winchester Center Fire, made by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. It was used in the Model 76 rifle and others also. The second one, F. A. stands for Frankford Arsenal, it was made in November of 1913, (11 13) I'd need measurements to tell you more. The last is 30 cal. Winchester Center Fire, made by Winchester Repeating Arms Co. Hope that helps.

In the original post:
Quote "Your what-is-it, it was used to latch down the hood on the older cars (pre 30's). (Third photo, center) ?"

OP

"I looked online and can't find any that have wood on them. This has a rod that goes into wood that is all rotten."

I have not found it yet..but still betting on the boat hook.... :icon_scratch:

I first thought it resembled a window pole hook as shown below, it would be about the right size, a couple of inches. Much smaller then a boat hook. But I've never seen one with a rod coming out of it. That's strange.

Looks like a hood latch to me........ could be off a farm tractor even, but doubt those were nickle or plated and actually looks a bit fancy for a tractor.
