Help identify this possible civil war button!

Congratulations! You've indeed found your first Military button from the civil war era.

It is a 3-piece US Army Officer button, made for use by ranks of colonel and higher (call Staff-grade officers). This specific version was first adopted for service in 1832, and continued in use until early 1902. Your button's backmark of "Extra Quality" in raised lettering inside a depressed channel dates your button from the early 1850s though the early years of the civil war.

Edit: I've self-corrected my error about the date of first service. I was thinking of the Army Regulations change regarding Field-Grade officer's in 1854.
