Help Identifying strange rock

Found this rock while sluicing, have never seen anything like it..almost looks like lava rock being it is very porous and light weight!!

All I can think of is lava/cinder because of the pockets.
 

Going by the pics , along with it's light weight being the predominant
descriptive factor I'm gona vote with NeoTokyo .
Some type of corrupted or sediment compacted Scoria .
 

Would this be something normal to find in Mid North Carolina..??
