Help! my Minelab Sovereign Elite Digital ID is malfunctioning, (I think)

Yikes!
So I go to turn on my Minelab and recalibtrate it on a quarter and the Digital ID meter shows "-1" and wont bounce around from target to target. Theres a knob on the back you use to fine tune the blasted thing, but it wont do anything now. If I turn it off and on again it will work fine for a sec or 2 and then go back to neg 1.
What the hell? Any Ideas? I cleaned and checked all the wires, dry lubed the sockets and looked for nicks and damage in the cables....so what now?

I'm no expert on this, but you may have some water damage on that control. When I did the 180 mod on my meter, there was some rust/corrosioin on it. The mod kit came with a new control. Probably only cost a few dollars for a new one. It is a little work to take the housing apart. You might find something at this site.
