Some gentle cleaning may bring out more detail - but I'm thinking it may be a bridle rosette.

i was think that but the thing is kinda heavy for a hair piece and has some really sharp points where the connect together.

the bridle rosette is a great possibility. the house and barn date back to the 1700's.
the west wall was taken out by a cannon ball during the CW.

Use a wooden toothpick and gently clean to see if anything shows through - got my curiosity now

After cleaning it is whiter but nothing is showing.
i'm not even sure what type of metal this is. it is not really rusted and is not magnetic.
it is very rigid and does not bend like lead but does not have the weight of silver.
