Help Please

Hey everyone. I was cleaning some of my past dump finds from an old farm and came across these 2. I thought they looked cool so I spent about 3 hours doing my best researching them. I was only able to narrow them down to around 10 different companies (IMHO) so I would love to hear anyone's opinion. And I've already read enough to know that a 100% ID just isn't going to happen all the time so I'm prepared for that answer too. I tried to photo every side of them so I hope these will do. PS: The only thing that I know for sure is that the house there dates back to about 1880 and it was abandoned in the early 60's. I know that's really broad but at least I know that they should be kinda old.

Hey Josh,

I am no good at this age of marbles, but i sure do like this one. Has that extra terrestrial terrarium look to me.

Thanks a bunch for looking Surf. After my limited research all I can tell you is that one is called a Core something or other marble. Some of them are pretty sought after though I'm fairly sure mine isn't. My real interest is in finding out if that other one is actually agate or just a look alike. If it is agate my fingers are crossed that its a Christensen Agate. Unfortunately I'm clueless so I see its twin in every dang company I research

the first one may be alley agate...you could call it a west virginia swirl and be safe...the asian cateye is still being made today....

I just thought of another big detail I forgot. The clear one with inside design is 5/8 of an inch in diameter and the other one is slightly larger at 11/16 of an inch.

Thanks Duffy. Alley was on my list of about ten different possibilities in my eyes. May I ask what it is that clued you in on it possibly being agate and also what feature do you think rules it out of being Christensen Agate? I'm by no means doubting you, I'm just trying to learn. You can't escape finding them while bottle digging so I may as well learn. Thanks a bunch for your time! HH

its in the color of the glass and base glass...christensen cant even be considered cause that marble dont have a cutline....christensen s always have a cutline....the wvswirls cutlines are inside the marbleand the colors go up inside of it and folds over..its all very compklicated and hard to explain for me without an example to point at and say...see this...lolol...

That is an Alley Agate
The Cat eye is an actual Chinese cat eye Late 40's/early 50's by the colors on the vanes

A core is a German made marble, transparent glass with any number of different kinds of cores. You probably saw a solid core for your ID. The cats are Asian, you can see little creases on either or both ends, called pontils. Not valuable, but sure are cool looking. I agree with Joe Street's website, it is a real help.

The other is a West Virginia swirl, the crease will be a clue, and the way the swirls look. To me, I see Alley color, but I hate IDing swirls, lol. Some are obvious and some just get called WV swirls.
