I will say that this pin is very interesting for a few reasons...

One being the count of stars... the amount of stars on items like this are the first clue to dating them.

The other being the fact that the amount / count is hard for me to see on sides.

Middle shield has 19 I THINK.

It was enameled at one time as well.

Yeah, I think ARC is right.... looks like 19 stars to me. If the number of stars is relevant.....
So that would be 1816 or so..... very cool

Welcome. Cool find. I count 30 stars. This became the official US Flag on July 4, 1848, after Wisconsin was admitted to the Union on May 29, 1848, and lasted 3 years. What exactly your item is, I could not find.

I was thinking the same thing about the stars. It was hard to tell how many stars were on the flag itself though I will found out.

I think we need to count the stars on the flag, not the shield.

Seems as though that would date it then. Very nice.

I think the number of stars in this case was more a matter of what they could fit on there, and that it’s maybe early 1900’s.
The bit of blue enamel remaining might be a clue to finding another like it.

Well, the Phrygian cap and the halberds lead me to believe this it US Army related, due to the lack of findings on the back, maybe it was only glued onto something, like a drum. It may have never had pins or fasteners. Maybe Military Academy item? Just my hunches...and it is a wonderful relic, congrats! Sub 8-)[h=1][/h]

in my opinion, it is most likely a patriotic pin or ribbon topper from the Span-Am war era
