HELP. Snake around a mushroom button

the coolest thing I have found to date, it is a mushroom with a snake around it

The snake looks chopped at the end, its pretty cool looking thing any info please
 

Are you sure its not a cap on a staff instead of a mushroom.. like what's on a seated dime

I think they call these Rattlesnake buttons - and I think you may have a major find here - but I'm pretty ignorant about buttons so I'll shut up and wait for the button experts to weigh in . Nice Find !

Yes you are correct, knew I saw it somewhere thought it had something to do with Washington.
I believe it's a Revolutionary War button imported from France. Awesome find!! :icon_thumleft:
