Hi, gang. I've had this old Search Master Dx-4500 for as long as I can remember. I got it from my Grandfather's belonging when he passed, and it has never worked properly.
Basically, the second it gets turned on, the meter pegs and it lets out a solid tone like there's something under it. It happens even when it's away from any sort of metal or emi.
Now, I have no illusions of this machine setting the world on fire. I would like to get it running just for the heck of it. I enjoy fixing things and it bothers me when something isn't working properly. I'm pretty handy with electronics and have a good multimeter, but metal detectors are something I've never messed with.
Any hints on where to start? Anything is appreciated!
