I haven't cleaned it yet..just rubbed with my thumb.
I'm no expert at this but I found it on a 1715 fleet beach.
My first guess is Carlos II
Any thoughts?

Wow Gator,
Carlos II, you see it up close and can hold in hand (we can't)...have you cleaned it yet?
From the first glance at it...my thoughts were not from Mexico and a worn out 1 reale.
Cleaning it will get you closer to the ID hopefully, or just leave it uncleaned.
PS. Thanks for taking pictures of the find before cleaning :laughing7:
Nice snag...

Ha! Right.. That's just common procedure.
I want to clean it just well enough to see it more clearly..but that's it.
I haven't done anything yet..just have it in distilled water.
Electrolysis with a little cell phone charger I think.
Thanks!
I'm stoked..I will post when done.

It's getting interesting

Well.. I don't know what to say other than..make sure you check every piece.
I honestly thought this other piece was junk.
I also thought about not posting any of my finds ..thinking I've surely layed down a string of clues about where I hunt..but now I figure...if anyone is willing to check the wind weather swell..and beach every day and go through what I did..and do.. then more power to you.
One great day makes up for ALOT of skunk.
I can't wait for conditions to allow for finding some.."heavier" objects.

Thank you.
I think this photo might be better..
At least it can't hurt..I'm having a tuff time with it..I know that.
The other with the Mexico cross is easier.

I think BootySalvage recently found a full example of the Mexico mint piece.

I'm probably looking like a lunatic by now.. responding to my own posts.
But anyway .. I think ..by the thickness of the cross and what appears to be a perpendicular bar at the end of one of the arms.. I'm guessing Lima.

You have a good spot. I have been hitting douglas with my CZ20 and haven't found anything. I will probably run into you there on a windy day. Lots of 2 escudos have been found on that beach. Just need a good cut.

Also, most of the half reales seem to be Carlos II or Phillip V. I know the spot you're working and if you beat Gary there on a good cut you never know what the hell you're going to find.

Haha.. I'm sure I'll see you before too long.
Thanks Eric.
The name is Bill.
Yeah..you know the area.. I don't usually cover alot of ground..just cover good ground real well.
Most days I just clean the junk for you and Gary.
Happy Hunting

Time was sure tuff on this one..
Only 1.1 grams. Too big for a quarter reale so ...a very thin beach found 1/2
Must have been tumbling around for a long time to loose over 30% of its weight.
