Nice find.. I would say not C W era looks to be made of zinc or pot metal..possibly a saddle decoration or collar tip ..

In case you didn't read my link above, it is from a CW Era Texas saddle, called the Hope Saddle.
 

I did. It makes sense. During The teacher and red river campaign there were plenty Texans fighting yanks in south la.
